Vernon Thornhill

1927-2007

Vernon Lee Thornhill Sr., 79, of the Enon community, died Feb. 7, 2007, at Beacham Memorial Hospital.

Visitation is 4 to 8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb and 9 a.m. Saturday until services there at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mike Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Enon cemetery with Masonic graveside services and military rites.

Mr. Thornhill was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Walthall County, to James “Jimmy” Wallace Thornhill and Verma Jones Thornhill.

He was a retired cotton farmer of 18 years, raised greyhounds for 10 years and worked as a boilermaker/welder for 20 years.

He was a member of Pine Lodge No. 383 F&AM for 53 years and served as past master several times. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Thornhill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Emma Sileci and Rena D. Thornhill; and a brother, Danford Thornhill.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Rowley Thornhill of the Enon community; four sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Peggy Thornhill of Charlotte, N.C., Vernon Thornhill Jr. and Polly of Greer, S.C., Jimmy Thornhill of the Enon community and Robert and Georgia Thornhill of Austin, Texas; four daughters and three sons-in-law, JoAnn Kleppinger of the Enon community, Barbara and David Moulds of Columbia, and Kathy and Perry Hill and Felicia and Wayne Foil, all of Tylertown; a sister and brother-in-law, Jamie and James Nations of Monticello; 25 grandchildren, Courtney Foil, Wesley Foil, Amanda Tagert, Brian Lowery, Heather Alexander and Sara Lowery, all of Tylertown, Corenda Lowery of McComb, Scott Thornhill, William Thornhill and Maggie Kleppinger, all of Enon, Chantel Patterson of Lumberton, Thomas Kleppinger and Robert Kleppinger, both of Magnolia, Alicia Parsons of Charleston, S.C., Valerie Satterfield of Mauldin, S.C., Christopher Thornhill of Jefferson, Ga., Natalie Dyer of Maysville, Ga., Michael Thornhill of Austin, Texas, Christina Knodle of Vacaville, Calif., James Lee Thornhill of San Antonio, Texas, John Thornhill of Minot, N.D., Melissa Winstead of Wilson, N.C., Mendy Blankenship of Buford, Ga., Karen Nicholson of Gloster and Karl Kleppinger of Natchez; 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, longtime friends and neighbors.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Foil, Christopher Thornhill, William Thornhill, Thomas Kleppinger, Brian Lowery, Robert Kleppinger, Michael Thornhill, John Thornhill, James Lee Thornhill and Karl Kleppinger.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pine Lodge No. 383 F&AM.

    Beth and I are praying for you and your family...I know it has been a difficult week for everyone. I taught your Wed. night Bible study it went fine... we had eight kids...I will teach for Rick this Sunday unless someone else was contacted ...I don't believe they were... I have not talked to Rick but I have heard that he and Darlene won't be there Sunday... I will check with him and cover if necessary...Have a safe trip home and don't worry about things here.
