John Calvin Thornhill

1945-2007

John Calvin Thornhill, 62 of Summit, died May 29, 2007, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Services, and 9 a.m. Friday until services there at 10 a.m. The Rev. Danny Singleton will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Smithdale.

Mr. Thornhill was born Jan. 11, 1945, in Pike County.He was the son of the late James Calvin Thornhill and the late Casey Mae Bumpus Thornhill.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved hunting and fishing. Mr. Thornhill for many years worked at Riverside Gravel Company and until his recent battle with cancer worked for Hammett Gravel Company in Lexington. He was a member of Moak's Creek Baptist Church and a Mason in the John A. Quitman Lodge.

Mr. Thornhill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Frank and James Lee Etheridge; and a sister-in-law, Ocila McKey.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Fannie Mae Etheridge Thornhill of Summit; four sons and daughters-in-law, John C. Thornhill Jr. and Debbie, Bartley Thornhill and Emily, Ricky L. Thornhill and Melissa, and Frankie Thornhill and Jan, all of Summit; one brother and sister-in-law, James Thornhill and Esther of McComb; two sisters, Faye Suggs and Mary Ann Suggs, both of Ponotoc; six grandchildren, Kayla, Jacob, Bradley, Joshua and J.C. Thornhill III, and Bonnie Robinson; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Jackie Robinson; and a special uncle, Acie Thornhill and wife Alice of Denham Springs, La.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
