George Washington Mixon

1928-2007

George Washington Mixon, 78, of the Enon community in Walthall County, died June 5, 2007, at his residence.

Visitation is 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the family residence, 218 Lawrence-Reid Road. Graveside services are 11 a.m. in the Huckleberry Hill Family Cemetery with Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb in charge.

He was born July 6, 1928, in Magnolia, Texas, in the Little Egypt area. He was the son of Ira A. Mixon Sr. and Minnie Tabb Mixon.

He attended school in the Oklahoma community and was a member of First Christian Church in McComb. He was retired from Superior Oil Co. and after retiring, moved to Enon and began an organic farm.

Mr. Mixon’s family said he was an avid outdoorsman and loved to farm and hunt. He was a man who loved his God and family.

Mr. Mixon was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Ira A. Mixon Jr., Calvin Mixon, Arthur Mixon and L.B. Mixon.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Jerry Jackson Mixon of Enon; a son, George Alfred Mixon of Houston, Texas; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Shirley and Bennie Kocian of New Carney, Texas, Jeré and Doug Rayburn of Enon, Pamela Harper of Montegut, La., Jamie and Norman Henry of Theriot, La., Sandie Harper of McComb and Rebecca and Shannon Van Goosen of Lake Charles, La.; two brothers, Robert Mixon of Conroe, Texas, and Joe Mixon of Tomball, Texas; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Thornhill, Chris Rayburn, Doug Rayburn, Troy Rayburn, Chad Johnson, Daniel Brister and Shannon Van Gossen.
