Margaret Arlette Travis Mercier, 83, of Magnolia, died Jan. 21, 2007, at her residence.
Visitation is 5 to 10 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb and 9 a.m. Tuesday until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Rusty Bowser and the Rev. Troy Bankston will officiate. Burial will be in the Nunnery Cemetery in Smithdale.
Mrs. Mercier was born Jan. 16, 1924 in Amite County to Curtis Joe Travis and Callie Maxie Hughes Travis Mercier.
She was a devoted dairy farmer’s wife and a true “homemaker,” who loved cooking, crocheting, gardening and family gatherings. She always provided her family with words of wisdom and plenty of homemade goodies. She will long be remembered for her strength, integrity, biscuits, red beans and rice, dumplings and homemade pies. She was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Magnolia.
Mrs. Mercier was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Lee Mercier; three daughters, Zadie Robertson, Dianne Martin and Ruby Lee Moak; four sisters; four brothers; and two grandchildren, Holly Leger and Lee Edward Mercier II.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John Edward and Wileene Mercier of Magnolia and Thomas J. and Melba Mercier of Smithdale; two daughters, Latricia M. Roberts of Steens and Margie Mercier and her friend Ronnie Hilburn of Gallitin, Tenn.; a son-in-law, Danny Martin of Nashville, Tenn., 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Jimmy Spence, Ernie Scarber, Alton Scarber and wife Laressa, Rose Barnaby and husband Jay, Thomas Alan Emfinger and wife Sabrina, Fred Emfinger, Randy Evans and wife Elise, Parish Mercier, Angela Wright and husband Michael, Sean Mercier and wife Angie, Tiffiney Slipher, Bryan Roberts, Brandi Windle and husband Brian, and Daniel Martin; 24 great- grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brian Windle, James O. Spence Jr., Ernie Lee Scarber, Lloyd Spence, Randy Evans and Joel Fisher.
