Robert E. Lee

1928-2006

Robert E. “Bob” Lee, 78, of McComb, died Dec. 17, 2006, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Visitation is 10 a.m. Thursday at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb until services there at noon, with Dr. Mack Amis officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Lee was born July 29, 1928, in McComb. He was the son of H.S. Lee, Jr. and Lilla Taylor Aycock.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in McComb. He worked at Aero Jet General in Sacramento, Calif., where he tested solid rocket fuel. He retired in the l960’s and returned to McComb. He was an Eagle Scout in his younger years, graduating high school in Memphis, Tenn., and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in electrical engineering. After college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving as a signalman. He was an avid ham radio operator since the 1940’s and was also very active in computers. He had his pilot’s license at the early age of 16 years of age.

Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

Survivors include one son, William Douglas Lee of McComb; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lee Nance and Steve of Summit; three grandchildren, Kristi Smith and husband Johnny, and Katie Nance and Kyle Lee; and two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Taylor Smith.
