Hettie Laverne Hughes Le-Gette, 95, of Greensburg, La., died July
1, 2007, at her residence. Visitation is 9 a.m. Saturday at Jones
Family Funeral Services in McComb, until services there at 11 a.m.,
with the Rev. Wayne Talley officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m.
in Natchez City Cemetery.
Mrs. LeGette was born Oct. 22, 1911, in Amite County. She was the
daughter of Alva and Estelle Brabham Hughes.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greensburg and a former
longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church. She was active in both
churches before her health failed. She was a member and former
regent of the Amite River Chapter of the Mississippi Daughters of
the American Revolution.
Mrs. LeGette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Aubrey Newman LeGette; one grandson, Yancy Aubrey LeGette; five
brothers, James Floyd Hughes, Charles Noel Hughes, Alva “A.R.”
Ringold Hughes, Roy Hughes and Walter Ray Hughes; and four sisters,
Merble Jones Butler, Edyce Little, Minnie Little and Hilda Womack.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Tom
Rice of Alpharetta, Ga., and Alvanell and J.B. Moore of Cumming,
Ga.; one son, John Carl LeGette of Greensburg; one sister, Blanche
Minks of New Kensington, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Bernice Hughes of
Gillsburg; one brother-in-law, Charles “Red” Womack of McComb; eight
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews.
