David M. “Dave” Griffin, 66, of the Enon community in Walthall
County and formerly of McComb, died March 4, 2008, at Forrest
General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at
Enon Baptist Church and 9 a.m. Thursday until services there at 10
a.m., with the Rev. David Hedden officiating. Burial will be in Enon
Cemetery, with Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Griffin was born May 6, 1941, in McComb to James Clifton and
Wilene Lawrence Griffin. He was a district supervisor for McComb
Ready Mix and Jackson Ready Mix, where he was retired. He was a
former member of the Mississippi National Guard and attended
Southwest Mississippi Junior College. He was a longtime member of
Enon Baptist Church and a member of the church brotherhood.
Mr. Griffin’s family said he was a simple man who loved life in the
country. He devoted his life to being a committed husband and
dedicated father. He was known for his love of the Lord as well as
his honesty, gentleness and kindness.
Later in his years, Mr. Griffin was blessed with grandchildren.
Kaila, DJ, Kaycee and Castyn were his heart. Sitting in his recliner
and rocking his grandchildren while watching “Barney” the dinosaur
was one of his favorite pastimes. He also was an avid weather
watcher. He enjoyed informing his family and friends about daily
temperatures and impending storms.
“He will be sadly missed by many people, but the love and admiration
for him will live on,” his family said.
Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David
Clifton Griffin.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Paula Burnette Griffin of
Enon; three children, Cristi Griffin Neames and husband Clifford of
Clinton, Chad Griffin and wife Nolana of Tylertown, and Robin
Fulgham of McComb; a brother and his wife, James W. and Nell Griffin
of Enon; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other
family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Spencer, Louis Boyd, Louie Huhn, Duane
Dillon, Clay Griffin and Travis Marbury.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Foreman and Ed Pigott.
Memorials may be sent to the Enon Baptist Brotherhood, 1449 Highway
583, Jayess, MS 39641.
