Devoy Ray Dunaway

1932-2007

Devoy Ray Dunaway, 75, of Summit, died May 31, 2007, at his residence.

Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in McComb. Visitation continues at 2 p.m. Sunday at West McComb Baptist Church until services there at 3 p.m. The Rev. Vann Windom will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Dunaway was born March 9, 1932, in Pike County. He was the son of Vaught and Farriol Burnette Dunaway.

He was a member of West McComb Baptist Church and a former member of Enon Baptist Church. He was active in both churches. He enjoyed participating with the “Yesterday’s Kids” at West McComb. He was also a former member of Gideons International.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a retired teacher for McComb Public Schools where he taught drafting and mechanical drawing for more than 30 years. He continued to use his skills as a real estate appraiser after retirement from the school system. He was also a United States Naval Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Dunaway loved spending time with family. He was a devoted husband of 56 wonderful years to his best friend and sweetheart. He loved working outside with his roses and watching his grandchildren play.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Howard and Blanche Parsons; and a daughter, Donna Marie Edwards.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Dunaway of McComb; one daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Stephen Adams of Summit; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Debbie Dunaway of Summit, and Danny and LaRheta Dunaway of Tylertown; one son-in-law, Doug Edwards of Mars Hill; seven grandchildren, Michelle Thomas and Tracie Magee, both of Tylertown, Melissa Howell of Jamestown, N.C., and Bradley Howell, Brandon and Patrick Dunaway, and Justin Adams, all of Summit; four great-grandchildren, Erica Thomas Sandifer, Katie and Shelby Thomas, and Taylor Magee, all of Tylertown; one great-great-grandchild, Bradyn Sandifer of Tylertown; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and Shirley Parsons of Summit.

Pallbearers will be Bill Parsons, Wiley Parsons, Doug Edwards, Tim Stamps, Tommy May and Ronnie Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the adult men’s class of West McComb Baptist Church.
