Wendell Lee “Byrd Dog” Byrd

1963-2008

Wendell Lee “Byrd Dog” Byrd, 44, of Tylertown, died March 26, 2008 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson after a lengthy illness. Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Guiding Light Pentecostal Church in Magnolia, then 9 a.m. Saturday until services there at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Charles Carney, the Rev. Jaron Carney and Bro. Ted Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Rushing Cemetery in Tylertown under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Services of McComb.

Mr. Byrd was born Sept. 4, 1963, in Richton. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Gordon Byrd of Tylertown. He was a member of Guiding Light Pentecostal Church and was a maintenance worker at Sanderson Farms. He loved his family and was a hard worker, a great friend and a wonderful husband and father. His family said he was a jokester and enjoyed a good joke. At the end of every conversation his favorite thing to say was, “Tell ’em what I said,” and “That’s right.” He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his brother, Dwayne Byrd. Survivors include his parents; his wife of 14 years, Nadine Byrd of Tylertown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Jessie Byrd of McCall Creek and Brandon and Jenni Bedwell of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Courtney and Kennon Halford of McCall Creek, Tangela Roberts, Brandy and Robert Burns, and Amber and Brandon Carney, all of Tylertown; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kirk and Deloris Byrd and Jeff and Beverly Byrd, all of Petal, and Robert and Bridgett Byrd of Jayess; seven grandchildren, Katelynn Roberts, Krislynn Roberts, Aysiah Martin, Robbie Burns, Skyla Burns, Zane Byrd and Laci Halford; his mother in-law, Elaine Cooper; numerous nieces, nephews and friends, including his boss and friend, George Jones of Laurel, and the original crew at the Sanderson Farms McComb plant.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Bates, Yates Boyd, Mike Aultman, David Kemp, Mark Brock, David Hinson, Mike Craft and Benjamin Reaves. Honorary pallbearers will be Sanderson Farms maintenance crew members.
