Mildred Lee Wall Bates, 53, of Osyka, died Nov. 29, 2006, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Visitation is 10 a.m. Saturday at Osyka Baptist Church until services there at 2 p.m. The Rev. Milton Kliesch will officiate. Burial will be in the Osyka Cemetery under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb.
Carolyn Blalock will present the prelude and postlude.
Joelyn Hollis, Rona Culotta and Noralyn Perkins will provide special music.
She was born Aug. 8, 1953, in Amite County. She was the daughter of the late Leslie and Georgia Young Wall.
Her family said, “If someone knew Mildred for even a short time, one thing for certain that they would learn about her was that family was more than just important to her.
“During her parents’ lifetimes Mildred was a devoted daughter. Her four children were her pride and joy, greater comfort, and, to her, the absolutely best personal accomplishment she could have ever had. She loved her children as deeply as a mother could, and in return, they cherished and lavished her with love and respect.
“She was a grandmother who truly enjoyed her grandchildren to the fullest that her health would allow. Holidays and special gatherings with her family and her brothers and sisters and their families were something she always loved, despite all the good-natured teasing she had to endure over her cooking, her appearance, her punctuality, or whatever the topic of merriment that particular day.
“Each year the Wall family reunion was just like another holiday in Mildred’s calendar year. She was extremely proud of her Wall heritage, and she anticipated each July with true excitement to see all her huge extended Wall family from near and far.
“Mildred loved working in her flower beds and mowing grass. Supervising holiday preparations and cooking for these was also a favorite of hers. Going places was an enjoyment but only after a meticulous routine of hair and makeup preparations that could last for hours.
“She was generous with all she had and all she was. She gave of herself to her family and friends without hesitation. She was quick to laugh and loved to talk and tease. ‘Monk,’ as she was nicknamed, will be greatly missed by a large family and an even larger circle of friends.”
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Rhonda Morris of Kentwood; three daughters, Leslee Ravencraft and her husband Ricky, and Beth Alford and Lacey Morris, all of Osyka; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis Ray and Martha Wall, Larry and Pam Wall, and Bob and Kim Wall, all of Osyka; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and Hilton Hollingsworth of Busy Corner and Charlotte and Glenn Rayburn of Hattiesburg; grandchildren, Dakota Hammons of Kentwood and Clint Alford and Jenna Ravencraft, both of Osyka; special and dear friends, Etta Gill and Cheryl Blalock; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be her son-in law, Ricky Ravencraft; and nephews, Robbie Hollingsworth, Chris Rayburn, Kyle Rayburn, Cliff Rayburn and Dennis Michael Wall. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Gill, Scott Gill and Bobby Gill.
