John Bartell Sr., 91, of Magnolia and formerly of Oberlin, La., died July 4, 2007, at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia.
Visitation was Friday at Unity Baptist Church from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
with funeral services held at 7 p.m. The Rev. Howard Brister officiated.
Visitation continued Saturday after 5 p.m. at Ardoin Funeral Home in
Oberlin. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. today at Oaklin Springs
Cemetery in Oberlin. Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb is in charge of
local arrangements.
Mr. Bartell was born Aug. 1, 1915, in New York, N.Y. He was the son of Helen
Blayney.
He was retired from International Paper Co. and was a farmer. He was a U.S.
Navy veteran of World War II. He was member of Oaklin Springs Baptist Church
in Oberlin, where he served as a deacon. For the past six years he attended
Unity Baptist Church in Magnolia. He was a member of the Louisiana Orphan
Train Riders Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Mabel Tate Bartell; and
three sons, John W. Bartell Jr., Joseph W. Bartell and Charles O. Bartell.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis R. “Bozo” Bartell and
Charlotte of Beaumont, Texas; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley
Ballard of Oberlin, Ella Grace and Lewis “Buster” Gerald, and Linda “Lin”
and Michael Gallacher, all of Magnolia; one sister, Annie Mae Strange of
Centerpoint, La.; three daughters-in-law, Elaine Bartell of Oberlin,
Marcella Bartell of Westlake, La., and Lois Bartell of Kinder, La.; 11
grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several
great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Gerald, Dustin Gerald, Troy Bartell, James
Ballard, Mike Gallacher and James Manuel.
